This policy explains what [[LEGAL ENTITY NAME]] ("we", "us") collects when you use Hint List, a gift list service, and what we do with it. Questions: [[CONTACT EMAIL]].

Who this covers

  • Owners create an account and make lists.
  • Gifters open a shared list link. Gifters never create an account.

Hint List is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them. Lists for children are owned by a parent's account.

What we collect

  • Owners: your email address, your name (if you give one, or if you sign in with Google), and the lists, items, notes and rankings you create.
  • Gifters: the display name you enter, an optional email address, and a cookie that remembers you on that list so you can manage the claims you made.
  • Product information: when you save a link, we fetch public details (title, image, price, merchant) from the merchant page you submitted. We never fetch Amazon pages from our servers. Amazon items are read in your own browser through our extension, or identified by product number only.
  • Claims: which gift a gifter has claimed or marked as bought. If an owner turns on "spoiler free", claims are not shown to that owner.
  • Outbound clicks: when someone presses Buy, we record the click in Cloudflare Analytics Engine with the item, merchant, and a hash of the IP address and browser user agent. The hash changes daily. We do not store the raw IP address. We keep daily per-merchant totals in our database.
  • Product analytics: server-side events through PostHog, using hashed identifiers and no personal data.
  • Error tracking: Sentry, configured not to send personal information.

Browser extension

The extension reads only the page you are on, and only when you click it. It contains no affiliate links or affiliate identifiers.

How we use it

To run the service, show lists to the people you share them with, prevent duplicate gifts, measure and fix problems, and understand which merchants lists use (including for affiliate commissions, see our Affiliate Disclosure).

Who we share it with

Service providers that run the app: Cloudflare (hosting, database, storage, analytics), our email delivery provider (sign-in links and reminders), PostHog, and Sentry. Merchants receive your visit only when you follow a Buy link. We do not sell personal information.

Anyone with a list's share link can see the list, but never the owner's private notes or email.

Your choices

  • Revoke a share link at any time.
  • Delete your account: this deletes your user record and your lists. (In the app, or by calling DELETE /api/me.)
  • Gifters can ask us to delete their name and claims at [[CONTACT EMAIL]].
